What We Believe

"What comes into our minds when we think about God is the most important thing about us." - A.W. Tozer

Our Beliefs

As a church we openly affirm and purposefully cooperate with
the Southern Baptist Convention (SBC) and the Southern Baptists of Texas Convention (SBTC),

Friendly Baptist Church therefore subscribes to and aligns our practices with
the beliefs outlined in the doctrinal statement of "The Baptist Faith and Message 2000" (BF&M2K)
as adopted by the SBC on June 14, 2000,
affirming also the "Commentary on Article XVIII" of the BF&M2K.

Helpful Notes on Our Beliefs

You can download a printable edition of the BF&M2K HERE.

Helpful notes on Article I:
Our conviction that the Bible is "God’s revelation of Himself to man" expressed as "truth, without any mixture of error, for its matter" (inerrant), extends from a much more elaborate explanation found in the Chicago Statement on Biblical Inerrancy, which you can find HERE.

Helpful notes on Article II:
Our affirmation of the Trinity as reflected in our confidence that "the eternal triune God reveals Himself to us as Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, with distinct personal attributes, but without division of nature, essence, or being," is illustrated well HERE.

Helpful notes on Article XVIII:
Our understanding that sexual relationships outside of biblical marriage "have been declared illicit or perverse" by Scripture, wherein we are taught that "Marriage is the uniting of one man and one woman in covenant commitment for a lifetime," can be further examined in the expanded observations of The Nashville Statement and The Danvers Statement.
