To develop & grow as a Christian is like anything else that grows. It takes a seed, time and care. The seed is God's Word, time is your effort, and care is the work of the Spirit of God as He works in you to complete all He has planned for. In other words we grow in spiritual maturity by applying God's Word and becoming more like Jesus which is God's goal for us. The Bible says in 2 Corinthians 3:18b, “As the Spirit of the Lord works within us, we become more and more like Him and reflect His glory even more”
The Christian life is not so much about "doing" as it is about "becoming" - becoming more like Christ. It's a life-long adventure that takes patience and commitment. What really matters is who we are becoming in the process. Ultimately, the Christian life is about building an intimate relationship with Jesus as the Holy Spirit changes us from the inside out. This change happens as we grow spiritually and we become more and more like Jesus Christ.
